We’re based in Bristol, but work all over the country. We’re all passionate about reuse, then recycling, then energy recovery
– we don’t do landfill!
Collecteco came to be in 2005 after Steve Sliney had been working in the recycling industry and then with a community furniture project. He saw that, although there were a lot of projects around to help householders reuse domestic furniture and equipment, there wasn’t much around to help businesses and other organisations.
The mission of Collecteco is simple: to help organisations donate furniture, equipment and materials to good causes.
From humble origins in waste management, we saw an opportunity to make a huge impact in the world. As businesses grow and evolve, their need for office space, furniture and equipment changes. Often this is well before the kit reaches the end of its life-cycle.
The problem is that during times of change, the most pressing need for the business is to get the site clear. So the safest thing to do is to dump the lot. It’s a sunk cost.
The other side of this coin is the UK’s not-for-profit organisations. Desperate to help those they serve further, always struggling for resources.
If we could use our expertise in waste management to convince businesses that we can handle the site clearance part of the project professionally, we could build a network of good causes who require kit, and the processes to get it to them.
Connecting Business with Not-for-profit organisations
By connecting the two, we could transform the fortunes of good causes with in-kind donations from business. And turn unwanted kit into a significant social return on investment for the donating businesses. Both parties benefit massively on the alternative – skipping it. And so does the rest of society with less waste going to landfill.
CSR success for businesses
As part of our service to businesses we create a detailed social value report. We work with good causes who are only too happy to glowingly contribute to a case study, making a fantastic corporate social responsibility (CSR) success story for the business.
After several years of honing our concept, we were accepted onto a national business accelerator and now we are working with UK sites of some of the largest companies in the world to generate great CSR.
